The women who started Bream

While both founders are in their mid-30s, Bream is being co-designed with women 50+ through interviews, co-design sessions, focus groups, pilots, and early product usage. We treat lived experience as a core input to the product.

Ryan Reid, CEO & Founder

Ryan has spent her career collaborating intergenerationally, advocating for older adults, and building mission-driven businesses at the intersection of community and aging. Her professional focus has centered on the social, emotional, and quality-of-life challenges facing aging populations, including research as a Fulbright scholar in Nepal studying how women age together in community. Through this work, she identified a persistent gap around friendship, belonging, and social vitality in later life, the insight that led to Bream.

Emily Bell, CPO & Co-founder

Emily brings a background in large-scale consumer technology and community-engagement products used by millions of people. She leads Bream’s product evolution, translating co-design insights into a platform that can serve many women, not just one local group, and is guiding Bream from a web-based experience toward a multi-platform future, including planned mobile apps. Emily has spent her career at mission-driven companies and building products that give people agency over their lives.

Is Bream free? What does membership include?

Bream is a paid membership that supports moderation, safety, better matching, and experiences designed specifically for women 50+.
Membership includes:

Do you offer a free trial and can I cancel anytime?

Yes. You can start with a 14-day free trial.

You can cancel anytime. If you cancel before your trial ends, you won’t be charged.

Monthly and annual memberships include the same benefits, but annual offers the best value.

What are pods, affinity groups, and events?

- Pods are small groups of about 8 women designed for deeper connection and consistency.
- Affinity groups are themed communities based on interests or life stage (book clubs, walking groups, volunteering, travel, and more).
- Events include both local gatherings and virtual experiences like workshops and Q&As.

Matching uses what you share about your interests and life stage to connect you with women who are likely to click with you.

What if there aren't many members in my city yet?

You can start connecting right away through pods, affinity groups, and virtual events.

Local events launch once a city reaches 30 members, and you’ll be able to see progress toward launch in the app.s range from 10 to 60 minutes long.

How do you keep Bream safe?

Bream is a private, moderated community for women 50+. We have community guidelines, reporting tools, and active oversight to support a respectful environment.

Members can block or report others, and we review reports carefully. When guidelines are violated, actions may include warnings, removal from groups or events, or account suspension.

How do you protect my privacy and data?

We collect only the information needed to operate Bream safely and effectively, such as account details (name, email, birth year, location, interests) and limited technical data.

We do not sell personal information or use member data for targeted advertising. Members can request account and data deletion at any time.

How do I start meeting people on Bream?

When you join, you’ll create a quick profile sharing your interests and preferences.

From there you can:
- Get matched into a pod of women designed for deeper connection
- Join affinity groups based on shared interests
- Attend local or virtual events
- Respond to weekly prompts and discussions
